Below the Cavendish Manor lays forgotten chambers of healing, through Diana's study, ancient tensions are ceased with dragons, the leylines are reinvigorated via these types of archaeological actions. Like most media concerning questions of witchcraft, LWA is overtly traditional and revivalist, but at such a late stage of genre-writing that its most interesting themes are dealt with only as framing tropes for what is clearly the true text of the show, the character motions played out in subtle and obvious drama as the story movies forward. At the very least, an interesting door is opened in interpreting the role of media and theatrics in showing the path for the protagonists to unlock this magical tradition, with the revival of the past being done through the benefits of this theatrical figure restoring a sort of poetic magic to life. In doing this, fantasy is coping with its own role in enabling access to mystical encounters, ie, the Lovecraftian "grimoires" concocted by varieties of authors inspiring true experienced as they have truth in form, if not content. If nothing else, this interesting lesson and fanfiction-inspiration make it worth watching.

Identity is often taken for granted with discourses of identity being around the dealing-with from the outside of pseudo-soul "identities". Not so in this text. Two fascinations pervade this text - the first being travel and the second being flesh-as-flesh. In both, two separate paths are drawn around the issue of identity. The former being the topological, discourses made to create the identity from the individual person, as well as the individual's own self-writing as they go forward in their travels. The latter being geometric, the individual's relationship to the flesh, their own and the broad abstract of The Flesh. Within this setup, a non-linear series of vignettes explores these themes down all manner of promenades and detour.

Gensokyo as a place is constructed upon Yukari's keen awareness of the nature of fiction and reality. Gensokyo was built as a retreat from the outside world, enclosed behind a barrier of phantasms and illusions by being sheltered inside that world. It is Earth so long as Earth is treated as the world from humanity, not the world of flesh and blood. It's through this creation that Yukari is able to pull off her plan. Manipulation of borders, as a blunt power, only goes so far, the manga clearly shows she's unable to simply "gap" her way wherever she wants. Rather, she makes clever use of the nature of the moon, by its link to being like Gensokyo. As the light side of the moon has its relation to the dark side that the Outside World has to Gensokyo, the linkage between Gensokyo and the Lunar Capital is through the medium of their border construction, fantasies secluded into fantasies, the "floating world" of ukiyo-e.
